The directory provides reviews of 50 software programs approved for educational use in Alberta (Canada) schools. Each program was reviewed by two teachers with the purpose of determining the specific populations of special needs students (including the gifted) that the programs would be suitable for and the approximate grade level with which the program should be used. No attempt was made to determine the relative effectiveness of the programs as an instructional resource for special needs students. Programs are provided in the areas of business education, computer literacy, early childhood, keyboarding, language arts, mathematics, problem solving, and science. Programs are listed alphabetically by title and indexed by broad subject. Provided for each program is information on subject, topic(s), author, publisher, cost, components, system requirements, and other formats. Also provided is an evaluative summary of the program and consideration of special education applications. (DB)
