The Career and Life Management 20 course is required of Alberta, Canada senior high school students. Through the course students are to be given the opportunity to realistically set and plan for personal goals; assess and consider their own abilities; determine how their personal characteristics affect their learning and decision-making processes; and test their ideas and current expectations in a non-judgmental and safe environment. Core curriculum includes self-management, well-being, relationships, careers and the world of work, and independent living. Optional curriculum includes human sexuality, dealing with crises, entrepreneurship, consumer and investment choices, and cultural bridges. Learning outcomes are correlated with recall, involvement, understanding, and/or synthesis. The objectives and learning expectations defined for the core and optional curriculum are designed to integrate three generic skills: thinking and learning; communicating; and dealing with feelings.
