This document offers guidelines for developing a health education program for grades K-12. The Michign Department of Education has determined 10 topics in health that comprise a comprehensive health education program: (1) disease prevention and control; (2) personal health practices; (3) nutrition education; (4) growth and development; (5) family health; (6) emotional and mental health; (7) substance use and abuse; (8) consumer habits; (9) safety and first aid education; and (10) community and environmental health. The essential goals and objectives for each of these topics are listed for primary, intermediate, junior high school, and high school grade levels. (JD)
