Survey of Academic Skills: Grade 8 Rationale and Content Mathematics.

This survey reflects new developments in the mathematics curriculum as emphasized in the curriculum frameworks and state-adopted textbooks. The first section describes the procedure for the development of the survey and the rationale for the topics and types of questions included on the mathematics portion of the test. The second section describes the mathematics content to be assessed and includes illustrative questions. Areas assessed are: (1) "Numbers"; (2) "Operations"; (3) "Algebra"; (4) "Geometry"; (5) "Measurement"; (6) "Probability and Statistics"; (7) "Tables, Graphs, and Integrated Applications"; and (8) "Problem Solving."
