Following the introduction, section one discusses content and rationale and the need for an extended range of approaches, basic assumptions about teaching and learning, the purposes of school science and the translation of these into an effective model for teaching. Section two deals with the curriculum model and its operation in practice. Section three presents exemplars based on ideas discussed in the first two sections. Section four covers monitoring students' progress and teachers' effectiveness.
