Making Connections: Learning Challenges for Secondary Gifted Students.
Girard, M. Phyllis; And Others
This curriculum guide for secondary-level gifted students presents curriculum alternatives which are interdisciplinary and which emphasize a comprehensive study of major content areas through the humanities. The curriculum demands from the student complex learning, critical thinking, in-depth inquiry, creativity, and active participation. The guide begins with a list of characteristics of gifted students, accompanied by curriculum and classroom approaches that will capitalize on these characteristics. Curricular information is then presented for the following content areas: contemporary art, drama and philosophy, ethics and social questions, Greek theater, humanities and science, Middle Ages, prejudice, Renaissance, science seminar, and Utopia. Each content area section contains a list of major concepts, background information for teachers, and several learning and teaching activities. A bibliography is included for each curriculum area, along with a general list of resources and catalogs. (JDD)
