The Milpitas Unified School District's efforts to utilize information on school effectiveness and improvement research are reported. The first section gives a historical perspective on the district's activities in the area of implementing the school effectiveness research. This is followed by a discussion of the assessment and planning process initiated among the schools in the district. Evidence resulting from the implementation efforts, specifically the outcomes, products, and artifacts, are representative of the school's effectiveness research. The paper concludes with a discussion of what the authors have learned about the implementation of the research at the local level.
