This unit of the health education curriculum consists of four components, the overview (a brief philosophical statement outlining rationale, goals, objectives and suggested implementation) and grade level guides for grades 5, 7 and 9. The content of the grades 5 and 7 instructional packages is organized around five themes: (1) the importance of families; (2) human growth and development; (3) relationships and responsibilities; (4) sexual abuse prevention; and (5) promoting positive lifestyle. At the grade 9 level, the content is organized around four themes: (1) the importance of families; (2) human growth and development; (3) dilemmas and issues; and (4) promoting positive lifestyle practices. At each grade level, the summary lesson on well-being and lifestyle suggests positive ways to enhance health. Grade level materials include approximately 15 age-appropriate lessons. (JD)
