Missouri's vocational education delivery system involves 478 public school districts, institutions of higher education, and state agencies. The system' 445 comprehensive high school districts include 52 area vocational schools, 12 community/junior colleges, 1 adult technical college, 9 colleges and universities, and 2 state agencies. A system of industry (customized) training has been developed to tailor training programs to assist new or expanding companies in an effort to meet their immediate and/or long-range needs. Missouri has also established a system of seven regional centers to provide a comprehensive program of services to single parents and homemakers. The system also includes 24 centers to provide special services to secondary students who have been identified as being at risk and 25 formal assessment centers to assist special needs students. In fiscal year 1988, Missouri's vocational education system was supported by $18,695,039 in federal funds, $33,046,312 in state funds, and $62,762,924 in local funds. State vocational enrollments in 1988 were as follows: 117,752 secondary students, 44,406 postsecondary students, and 101,186 adult students. During 1988, 85 percent of those vocational program completers who were available for employment were placed in a job and 28 percent continued their education. Eight appendixes comprising more than half the document include 20 tables on enrollment or funding and a model form for determining client need. (MN)
