Proceedings of the Annual Meeting of the North American Chapter of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (8th, East Lansing, MI, September 25-27, 1986).
Lappan, Glenda, Ed.; Even, Ruhama, Ed.
Research on Teacher Education was the theme for the plenary sessions of the eighth annual meeting of the North American Chapter of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education. More than 50 papers were selected for presentation at the conference. These papers are grouped into seven categories in these conference proceedings. In the first section, three papers focus on learning theories. The second section on cognitive studies includes seven papers on integers, four papers on rational numbers, ten papers on algebra, and six papers on geometry. The third section contains two papers on auditory and visual perception, while the four papers in the next section focus on theories and models of learning to teach. Attitudes and beliefs is the fifth category, with four papers on children and four on teachers. Five papers consider methods of instruction, while in the final section two papers concern research methodology. Brief reports from six symposia are also included, focusing on the Van Hiele model for geometry, probability, proportional reasoning, clinical interviews, multiplication, and preservice methods courses.
