The Provincial Assessment of Mathematics was conducted at grades 3, 6, 9 and 12. There are three major components to the assessment: (1) a written test of the curriculum objectives carried out in May, 1987 for grades 3, 6, and 9, and in June, 1987 for grade 12 (Mathematics 300 and Mathematics 301); (2) a survey of teachers at these grade levels; and (3) a 1981-86 comparison testing for grades 3, 6, 9, and 12 (General and Mathematics 300) conducted in June 1986. The purpose of this preliminary report is to provide detailed information on the first component for use by classroom teachers in the review of the results in their classrooms. The report contains results of the provincial testing for all test areas (subtests) and for individual items. In the case of tests for grades 9 and 12 where curricular options are available, data reported for these options are not necessarily representative of the province and care should be exercised in interpretation.
