This newsletter has been designed to update and supplement the curriculum guide "Resources for Teaching Virginia Government." Issue 1 features "Campaigning on the Tube" (J. Babb), an articles that teaches about television's role in promoting political events and candidates in Virginia. "...Demagogues, Pedagogues, Gogmagogs, Brobdignags... Virginia Ratifies the Constitution" (J. Beard), the feature article in issue 2, highlights the historical significance of Virginia's U.S. Constitution ratifying convention. Issue 3 presents information about Virginia's public utilities and ratemaking in "The State Corporation Commission and the Regulation of Public Utilities" (T. Long) and in accompanying articles that identify the perspectives of the State Corporation Commission, an electric company, and a consumer advocate about utility ratemaking. Issue 4 contains: (1) "Local Government: The Changing Roles of Towns" (B. Holton); (2) "Using the Computer in the Social Studies Classroom" (D. Lineweaver); and (3) "The Jefferson Meeting: A Student Forum" (L. Chase). Each issue contains listings of instructional resource materials, and issues 1-3 provide a section entitled "Virginia Facts and Figures." (JHP)
