Teaching Skills for Library Educators. CE 626. Second Edition.
Zachert, Martha Jane K.
This course text outlines the objectives and content for a professional continuing education course on teaching skills for health science librarians. It is intended for librarians planning to teach as peer instructors in library science continuing education, instructors or internship mentors in graduate library school education, supervisor-instructors for inservice training in libraries, or instructors in bibliographic or other instruction of library users. Topics are divided into four sections which cover: (1) underlying concepts for teaching adults--teaching/learning as a system, learning theory and the teaching of adults, and the nature of planning for teaching and learning; (2) steps in planning teaching/learning--identifying instructional goals, writing behavioral objectives, developing instructional strategies, developing instructional materials, and evaluation; (3) implementation skills--attitudes, lecturing, leading/guiding instruction, demonstrations, managing classroom activities, conducting evaluations, and using media; and (4) examples of instructional materials. The first three sections include bibliographies. (MES)
