Personal/Social Behavior. Exceptional Child Education Curriculum K-12.
Heuser, Debbie; And Others
This curriculum guide aims to facilitate teaching and learning in the area of personal/social behavior for exceptional children in grades K-12. The scope and sequence of the guide are intended to reflect the course of normal social development beginning with a focus upon the self, through the metamorphosis of the self into a social being. A major goal of the guide is to help teachers in assisting exceptional students to become socially competent, and thereby to develop the prerequisite personal and social skills necessary for successful adult/vocational adjustment. Content areas include: self-awareness, interpersonal relationships, self-concept, impulse control, manners, reasoning and judgment, task attention and completion, and leadership. The guide is organized by content area, and within each content area are listed behavioral objectives, task analyses, learning activities, and resource materials. Materials are coded for the appropriate grade level--elementary, middle school, or high school--and teacher materials are also listed. A list of assessment tools, books, films, filmstrips, games, kits, pictures and cards, puzzles, workbooks, worksheets, and other resources is included. The guide also presents the Jefferson County (Kentucky) public schools' philosophy, the board of education goals, and the exceptional child education philosophy and goals. (JDD)
