The purpose of the Jefferson County (Kentucky) Public Schools K-12 Exceptional Child Education Curriculum is to facilitate teaching, and thereby learning, by providing a foundation of information and skills to be presented. The Assistive Devices curriculum is designed to help exceptional students learn to use specialized equipment. Assistive devices included are: amplification devices, braille writers, "Canon communicator," cassette recorder/player, corrective lenses, "Form-a-Phrase," headphones, magnifier, "Memowriter,""Optacon," record player, "Scan 40 Communicator," typewriter, "Visualtek," walker/crutches, and wheelchair. The guide presents the devices alphabetically, and objectives for learning each device are presented in sequential order. Major steps in the task analysis of each objective are listed, along with activities, materials, and resources for each step. Materials are coded for the appropriate grade level--elementary, middle school, or high school--and teacher materials are also listed. The guide also contains the Jefferson County public school philosophy, the board of education goals, and the exceptional child education philosophy and goals. (JDD)
