The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of major trends and forces likely to affect public education in Oregon. This report is intended to serve as one source of data that could be used by state policymakers in establishing educational priorities for Oregon. The report is organized into three major categories: (1) the context of education (education and the changing nature of the work force and demographic and social trends); (2) outcomes of education (academic performance and school completion); and (3) school characteristics and resources (teacher characteristics and educational resources).
