Documenting Mastery: An Inservice Presentation. Publication #CU7-370-02.
Texas Education Agency, Austin. Div. of Curriculum Development.
Practical ways to document essential elements taught and mastered are presented for the teacher and administrator. With the amendment of the administrative rules to remove the 70% passing requirement, educators received greater flexibility in determining appropriate ways to document mastery. What now determines whether or not students move on to more complex study is the certainty that they have mastered the abilities needed. Suggestions for daily lesson plans and grade books are given. Extensive examples illustrate the flexibility now permitted, with each example including curriculum guide excerpts, lesson plans, and grade books. Sample grading methods cover pre-kindergarten through high school subjects. Clarity of direction, usefulness to the teacher, and responsiveness to students are the hallmarks of effective documentation. (SLD)
