The Working Parents' Curriculum: Class Designs To Meet the Needs of Expectant and New Working Parents.
O'Brien, Mary Parys
Designed to meet needs of expectant and new working parents, these curriculum materials provide guidelines for instructors and discussions of six parent education topics. The curriculum begins by examining the qualifications an instructor should have before attempting to teach expectant or working parents. Subsequently described are specific ways in which curriculum materials can be organized into a class series or single session classes. Marketing suggestions are provided. The core of the curriculum is then presented in discussions of: (1) parental leaves; (2) resolution of the problem of deciding whether to return to work or remain at home; (3) location of high quality infant day care; (4) breastfeeding and working; (5) time management for working parents; and (6) postpartum issues for working parents. Presented for each topic area are background information, an outline of topics to teach, and a list of recommended readings. (RH)
