In summer 1986, a study was conducted at the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) to determine former CCP students' educational and career outcomes. Surveys were mailed to 1,000 graduates from the class of 1983, to 1,000 graduates from the class of 1985, and to 2,000 non-returning students. Study findings, based on responses from 100 1983 graduates, 183 1985 graduates, and 219 non-returning students, included the following: (1) 47% of the respondents had enrolled at CCP to develop job skills, 37% to earn transfer credit, 10% to improve job skills for their present job, and 6% for personal interest; (2) approximately 80% of the respondents were employed at least part-time; (3) of the employed respondents, 72% reported working in a job related to their CCP studies; (4) of those who enrolled to develop job skills, almost 79% found jobs related to their field of study; (5) 45% of all students continued their education after leaving CCP, with the 1983 graduates having the highest transfer rates; (6) there were no significant differences between graduates and non-graduates in terms of transfer grade point average, salary, or perception of the effectiveness of CCP; and (7) 92% of all respondents rated CCP as effective in helping them meet their educational or career goals.
