The conference "People and Technology: Investing in Training for Europe's Future" was the largest combined conference and exhibition ever launched by the European Community in the field of vocational training. The major themes discussed during the course of the conference were the future of training and work in light of technological change; education, training, and technological change in industry; job creation and new ways of working; the effects of the new technologies on educational, business, and training activities; training and technology policies for Europe's future; the impact of new technology on education and updating; new technologies and young people's future working lives; and investment in enterprise and job creation. The first of four parts outlines the major goals of the conference and the major action areas discussed by the conference participants. Part II consists of summaries of the main speeches delivered, and Part III summarizes the round table discussions and forums that were held on the following topics: the effects of the new technologies on educational, business, and training activities; basic education, training, and employment; new training materials and new qualifications; new technologies and enterprise creation; the impact of technological training on productivity and competition; management training for change; education and industry partnerships; and enterprise creation.
