This document contains case studies of troubled adolescents and is intended for use by educators for discussions, especially in in-service and graduate programs. Case studies of 10 young adolescents are presented, each followed by a set of questions drawn from a psychological theory. To help new practitioners who may have difficulty connecting theory with practice when they begin to counsel, evaluate, or teach adolescents, this document shows how five psychological approaches can be used to understand and help adolescents who are experiencing emotional and behavioral problems at school. The first chapter presents a case study and provides an introduction to the nine other studies presented in the book. Each of the remaining five chapters focuses on a specific psychological approach and includes case studies to illustrate each approach. The psychological approaches presented in the book are: (1) psychoanalytic; (2) developmental; (3) person-centered; (4) behavioral; and (5) systems/ecological. References are included. (NB)
