Contemporary Elementary and Middle School Physical Education Conference (8th, Atlanta, Georgia, January 16-18, 1986).
Jones, Margaret A., Ed.
The materials contained in this conference report are presented in three sections, one for each day of the conference. The agenda for the first day included an activity session entitled "Gregarious Activities Make Everyone Smile (Games)," a presentation on the use of computers in physical education, a session on the role of understanding in the teaching of games, and tours of elementary and middle schools. On the two remaining days more than 100 activity and position paper sessions were presented in open forum. These presentations, which make up the bulk of the report, deal with recent innovations, successful programming and teaching concepts, and research, and include such topics as self-concept enhancement through movement activities, adventure education and computers, aerobics for kids, classroom management in the gymnasium, creative equipment, and comparison of professional concerns of beginning and experienced teachers. Various kinds of dance are also described as well as specific activities ranging from jump rope to indoor speedball and from softball to juggling. (AA)
