Special Education Curriculum Guide.
Riverside County Office of Education, CA. Div. of Special Schools and Services.
The guide is intended to provide a framework for helping special education students acquire those skills which will enable them to live and/or work in the community after high school. Based on a functional/critical skills model, the curriculum is organized in four learning domains: domestic (personal health care, home care, and family life/social interactions); community (transportation, consumer services, schooling, and agencies and facilities); career/vocational (training models, occupational options); and recreation/leisure (sporting events, community services, vacation, family/social events, schooling, and hobbies/interests). The curriculum stresses the need for age appropriate instruction in natural environments, consideration of student and parental preferences, and a thrust toward independence. (CL)
