This report from the Coan Middle School in Atlanta (Georgia) provides information on student achievement for the 1986-87 school year. The narrative presents seven findings concerning attendance, reading achievement, and math achievement. Conclusions and recommendations generated from these findings are the following: (1) all achievement test scores were below the system average; (2) basal progress was below the system average and no sixth- or seventh-grade student reached expectation in math; (3) scores on the criterion-referenced test were lower than in 1986; (4) remedial work is needed, especially for the retained students in grades 6 and 7; and (5) closer attention must be given to periodic review of progress in relation to goals.
