Identification of Topics for an Inservice Training Program for Special Education Professionals on the Control of Burnout. Societal Factors.
Jones, Joan
A practicum on the control of burnout was developed for an inservice training program for special education professionals at Oxnard College (California). A review of current literature on the control of burnout was presented to an expert panel of special education faculty members who compiled a list of suitable topics for the practicum. Four major goals for inservice training were identified: (1) introduction of the concepts of burnout and tedium; (2) identification of work stresses commonly causing tedium and burnout in workers; (3) development of cognitive clarity in the distinction between two categories of stressful work features (those that are under the control of the individual and those that are not); and (4) development of tools for coping.
