This document contains a set of tabulations that are related to the science and engineering resources of universities and colleges. The tabulations were derived from three National Science Foundation (NSF) surveys that are conducted annually by NSF's Division of Science Resources Studies. Data presented in these tables are assembled from the most recently completed surveys and represent the latest totals available as of September 1987. The three surveys include different proportions of the higher education universe, depending on the degree of concentration of the variables being examined. The tabulations were based on surveys dealing with: (1) the expenditures of institutions granting science/engineering graduate degrees and schools with $50,000 or more in separately budgeted research and development expenditures; (2) the federal support received by all institutions of higher education in the United States; and (3) graduate students from institutions granting science/engineering degrees and their affiliated health professional schools.
