Iowa Developed Energy Activity Sampler 6-12. Home Economics. Revised.
Iowa State Dept. of Education, Des Moines. Div. of Instructional Services.
This set of activities is intended to assist home economics teachers in incorporating basic energy education concepts into traditional home economics topics. Awareness activities that are intended to help students develop an understanding of fundamental energy conservation concepts and, at the same time, apply these concepts in home economics activities, are grouped according to the following home economics subject areas: family and personal development, food, child development, clothing and textiles, and housing and interior design. The concept development portion of the individual activities may include such activities as reading, performing experiments, solving problems, interacting with a group, playing games, and acting out roles. The application phase is designed to enable students to apply the new concept to various situations or problems and may include the same types of activities that were included in the concept development phase plus a range of other activities, including debates, panels, simulations, surveys, design and construction projects, and community or school projects.
