Secretarial Technology/Office Technology. Volume I. Units I-IV. Instructor's Guide.
Missouri Univ., Columbia. Instructional Materials Lab.
This curriculum guide is intended to assist business and office occupations teachers in preparing clerical and secretarial students to function in offices whose procedures and equipment are changing rapidly in the face of modern technology. Although the curriculum has been developed primarily for students enrolled in secondary-level vocational programs, some of the units are also suitable for postsecondary and adult classes. The following topics are covered in this volume of the curriculum: career opportunities; typing (machine parts, procedures for typing letters, proofreading, interoffice memos, procedures for entering data on forms, tabulation, business reports, manuscripts); written communications (sentence recognition, capitalization and abbreviations, punctuation, words that are frequently confused, numbers, word division, spelling, subject/predicate agreement, revision, and request letters); and transcription from shorthand notes or transcribing machine (working from machines and from office-style dictation). Each unit contains unit and lesson objectives, competencies addressed in the unit, notes to the instructor, references, and one or more lessons. The individual lessons contain some or all of the following: information sheets, transparency masters, assignment sheets, answers to the assignment sheets, one or more posttests, and posttest key(s). A matrix that cross-references competencies addressed in the curriculum to Dictionary of Occupational Titles job classifications is also included. (MN)
