The Holistic Application of High Technology for Conversation, Writing, and Computer Access Aid Systems.
Rodgers, Barry L.
The principal thesis of this paper is that successful use of high technology for conversation, writing, and computer access aid systems requires a holistic perspective. A holistic approach is one in which all the components of the support system needed to use high technology effectively are in place. Recognizing that aid systems are tools helps people use their experience with other technological tools to identify the necessary components to apply high technology successfully. It is suggested that in the future professionals will be designated to provide such holistic application, and that aid systems will be produced by programming and configuring general market devices. The use of a standardized modular system to design high technology aid systems is advocated and it is suggested that third party funding sources will provide ongoing support. (CL)
