Handbook on Mainstreaming Handicapped Students in Vocational Education. Second Edition.
Hamilton, James B.
This handbook is intended to assist vocational teachers who are mainstreaming handicapped students into their vocational education programs. The first section describes the features of six common types of disabilities. The concept of providing a continuum of services and individualized education plans are discussed next. Various aspects of vocational evaluation services are examined, including who performs vocational evaluations, the main steps in the vocational evaluation process, information resources, applied techniques, and the use of vocational evaluation reports. Curriculum adaptation, learning styles, and instructional techniques are covered in a section on teaching strategies. Principles of modifying equipment and adapting printed materials, alternative testing, and alternative grading are outlined in the next three sections. Troubleshooting techniques, supportive services (supportive personnel, community services, and additional references and resources), and job placement (related employability skills and other issues) are discussed. A summary and list of references conclude the handbook. (MN)
