Progress in Education: A Report to the Community, 1985-1986.
Hyre, James G.
The Columbus (Ohio) Public Schools administers the Comprehensive Tests of Basic Skills (CTBS) districtwide to document the learning which has occurred and to guide classroom teachers and administrators as they establish curricula which is responsive to student needs. This report presents the results from the tests administered in April, 1986 to all Columbus Public School students. Among the major findings were the following: (1) in comparison to spring 1985 the scores of the average student are higher for every test at every grade level; (2) the score of the average student was at or above the 50th percentile on 38 of the 50 tests administered; and (3) in grades four, five, and seven the score of the average student was above the 50th percentile on every test. Progress reports for each school during the 1985-86 school year are included. The reports are grouped according to school levels: senior high schools, career centers, adult centers, middle schools, elementary schools, and special schools. Preceding the school reports, a summary of staff data by school levels is provided. For elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools test data are reported by percent of students scoring in low, average, and high percentile categories for total mathematics and total reading. In addition, the average national percentile score for each grade at the school and districtwide level is presented. (PS)
