Science Education in a High Technology Society: Proceedings of a Conference (2nd, Boston, MA, March 31-April 2, 1984).
Medvitz, Albert G., Ed.
The theme of this conference was intended to reflect the changes in the economic and educational environment and the changing perceptions of science educators in the United States and in the United Kingdom since the first such seminar which occurred in 1982. The document includes the text of the keynote address by F. James Rutherford entitled "Second Thoughts on a Theme: Science Education in a High Technology Society." Other sections of the proceedings contain papers on: (1) cost effective science education; (2) the appropriate use of high technology in the classroom; (3) meeting the needs of diverse learners; (4) research in science education; (5) providing professional support for teachers; and (6) strengthening the voice of professional associations in science education. A summary of the conference, and comments by Valerie B. Payne and Cindy Hrebar to the annual meeting of the National Association of Science Teachers are included. The appendixes include a description of the British and American educational systems. (TW)
