Revitalization and Renewal. The Report of the Benedum Study Project at West Virginia University.

Results of an external review of West Virginia University (WVU) and recommendations for strengthening WVU are presented. The review was designed by the Academy for Educational Development and involved 14 review panels and 42 senior university educators and administrators. A summary section on the observations, findings, and recommendations of the 14 panels is presented, along with the complete reports of the 14 panels and executive summaries of the reports. The panels cover the following areas: agriculture and forestry, business and economics, computers, enrollment management, extension and continuing education, finance, governance, graduate studies and research, human resources and education, journalism, land-grant university mission, relations with high schools, science-based technology, and undergraduate studies. A list of members of the 14 panels and the general committee is presented, along with information on economic factors in West Virginia. Suggestions for strengthening WVU are offered in a letter by the general committee to WVU president E. Gordon Gee. Appended is an analysis of state funding of West Virginia University by Frederick S. Lane and James S. Lawrence. (SW)
