Intended as a model for high school English curricula, this guide outlines the English courses offered for students in grades 9 through 12 in the Oxnard Union High School District (California). The first part of the guide offers a philosophy, the goals and objectives of the curriculum, and scope and sequence. The remainder of the guide provides information on each course, including the recommended grade level, length of the course, necessary textbook(s) and materials, outline of the course content, objectives, and assessment procedures. The types of courses described include four levels of English as a second language (ESL), basic English for limited-English-proficient (LEP) students, four levels of reading instruction, American and English literature, honors courses, speech, drama, and an independent study course for seniors.
