Designed to be used primarily as a reader for first and second graders, but also as a speller and vocabulary builder for any student who needs help in language arts mastery, this book combines phonics with the "Look and Say" methods to present a step-by-step learning guide. Following an introduction explaining the five-step procedure teachers can use to introduce new material to the student, the book presents initial consonant and consonant combination charts, along with indexes of illustrations and stories and notes on usage. The major portion of the book consists of 287 pages of succinct "stories" written in rhythmic prose intended to aid in the decoding process, as well as verbal exercises for pronunciation practice and vocabulary development.
