A Focus on Rural Upward Mobility for Single Parents and/or Homemakers. Final Report from July 1, 1986 to June 30, 1987.
Lake City Community Coll., FL.
Lake City Community College in Lake City, Florida, offers an array of services for single parents and displaced homemakers residing in a five-county rural area. The project emphasizes rural upward mobility through a team effort by staff of Florida's departments of continuing education and vocational training. The project staff includes four vocational counselors, one disadvantaged and minority counselor, one job service outreach counselor, two motivation and retention counselors, a fully staffed individualized labor force training service lab, and a group of academic and vocational advisors and instructors. In the 1986-87 project year, 158 persons received assessment, counseling, and vocational placement services. The project combines vocational skills training, self-esteem building, and career development with the ultimate goal of helping participants find gainful employment in high-wage, high-placement fields. (Appendixes include samples of various project report and evaluation forms.) (MN)
