This report is a documentation of the questionnaire that was used for a user survey conducted by the University Library of the Technische Universitat Wien (University of Technology, Vienna, Austria) in 1979-80. The survey entailed interviewing 692 faculty as well as 1,319 students on the following topics: (1) social variables; (2) research and study work; (3) information sources, needs and supply; (4) library use, including frequency patterns and relevant reasons; (5) use and evaluation of the university's main library; (6) acquaintance with and use of the library's catalogs; (7) catalog searching behavior; (8) evaluation of the opening hours of the main library; (9) experiences with information services in the library; (10) experiences with and opinions concerning library user instruction; (11) use of the library's publications; (12) evaluation of the centralized acquisitions services; (13) teachers' interest in cooperation, including book selection and subject cataloging; and (14) a new building to be constructed for the main library, including library organization, book presentation, and interior design. Both the faculty and student versions of the questionnaire are included, as well as information on the questionnaire design, questionnaire formulation, and typographical layout. A bibliography on library user research in Austria and West Germany is also provided. (Author/KM)
