BILC Report 1985.
Defense Language Inst., Monterey, CA.
This volume presents a report about the Bureau for International Language Coordination (BILC). A brief description is presented of the BILC, whose major responsibilities are (1) to disseminate information to participating countries on developments in the field of language training and (2) to convene an annual conference of participating nations to review the work done in the coordination field and in the study of particular language topics. Following a brief synopsis of the 1985 BILC conference, two articles are presented: "Identifying and Controlling Major Parameters Governing the Duration of Military Language Training, Specifically: Aptitude, Self-Study and Course Format" (Renzo Titone); and "Toward Communicative, Skill-Oriented Language Courses (Ideas on the Development of Appropriate Curricula)" (J. Rohrer et al.). A report delivered at the 1985 conference, "Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center Nonresident Courses" (Vu Tam Ich) and annual reports of three centers--the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, the Defense Language Institute Foreign Service Institute, and the Defense Language Institute English Language Center--conclude the document.
