Behaviour: Resource Guide.
Ontario Dept. of Education, Toronto.
Intended for teachers of students with behavior problems, this manual provides information on developing and maintaining a positive classroom environment and managing specific behavioral difficulties. Major emphasis is placed on the importance of encouraging affective development among all students. The manual's first section addresses effective classroom management at the preventive level, offering a variety of specific ideas and strategies that may assist teachers in maintaining appropriate behavior and fostering cooperation in the classroom. The second section considers effective classroom management at the supportive level, providing a framework for designing a rational and consistent approach to a particular behavioral problem. A model for supportive intervention, which assists the teacher in observing and recording, analyzing and interpreting, planning and intervening, and evaluating, is also presented as well as three case studies exemplifying its application at the elementary, intermediate, and secondary levels. Appendices present two of the case study teacher records and a list of references and curriculum materials. (CB)
