Getting Your Foot in the Door. Teacher's Manual.
New York City Board of Education, Brooklyn, NY. Office of Occupational and Career Education.
This teacher's manual provides teachers with an overview of the various learning packages that comprise the four-volume series of student workbooks entitled "Getting Your Foot in the Door." Dozens of introductory or follow-up activities are also included in this manual, which is designed as a do-it-yourself staff development course. The manual is organized by the seven learning packages divided among the four student workbooks. The learning packages are career planning/self-perception; career planning/values; communication; decision making; search, application, and interview; opening closed doors; and keeping a job. The introduction to each learning package is followed by the specific aims, suggestions for using the exercises in the student workbook, suggested activities, and additional activities. Appendixes include a listing of additional resources, sample lesson plans that emphasize how to infuse career education objectives into the basic curriculum, and a grid with learning package and page references, for activities that would best support objectives in language arts, social studies, science, mathematics, health, and business education.
