Designed to teach students to become selective and discriminating users of television who will be better able to affect changes in programming, this bulletin offers a series of suggested activities and lesson plans for teachers to use in planning instructional programs around television for students in kindergarten through grade 9. This course of study offers information about the role of television in our lives, programming and production aspects, and the history and development of television. Resource materials, classroom activities, and suggestions on how parents and teachers can use television with youngsters are also provided. In addition to an understanding of how television developed and how it works, students completing this course of instruction should come away with the following basic concepts: (1) television brings people together; (2) television reflects and influences society; (3) television instructs directly and indirectly; (4) television affects our actions as consumers; (5) television affects personal development; (6) our actions affect television; and (7) how television developed and how it works. An extensive list of reference materials and a list of works cited is appended. (MES)
