Selection and acquisition of relevant materials for building and developing an information infrastructure are modern worldwide problems. This document provides a core listing of journals in the earth sciences in an effort to develop a tool for the improvement of information handling and transfer. The core list was generated using several databases and selections were made based on productivity, scientific impact, and interest for developing countries. The major section of this document contains the core list, which includes: (1) the title of the journal; (2) the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN); (3) the subject area(s) or theme(s) covered by the periodical; (4) the most widely employed language(s) used for the articles published in the journal; (5) the number of issues published annually; (6) the abstracting services which cover each periodical; and (7) the name and address of the publisher. The subsequent sections provide indexes to the core list by subject scope, the countries where the journals are published, language, and ISSN number. (TW)
