Library-Scholar Communication in ARL Libraries. SPEC Kit 132.
Price, Anne J.
Based on the Survey of Scholars conducted by the American Council of Learned Societies' Office of Scholarly Communication and Technology, this report examines the need for better two-way communication between libraries and scholars as a means of easing the transition to the use of today's new and diverse information resources. A concise summary considers the survey background, online catalogs and databases, scholarly materials and future needs; "Librarians and Scholars--The Need for Channels of Communication" by Anne J. Price discusses library-related survey results; and eight tables present selected survey statistics. Also included are five examples of library-wide faculty communication programs, descriptions of five individual roles and responsibilities related to library-scholar communication (three for teaching faculty and two for librarians), and ten examples of printed communications, including fact sheets and newsletters. A brief bibliography of Office of Scholarly Communication and Technology publications is provided as well as ARL (Association of Research Libraries) SPEC (Systems and Procedures Exchange Center) kit order and evaluation forms.
