Alaska Parent Guide: Education and the Exceptional Child. Revised.
Griffith, Linda
Intended for parents of exceptional children in Alaska, this booklet briefly defines the handicapping conditions that make a child exceptional and then describes programs in Alaska available to parents and their exceptional children. The Child Find program, which identifies exceptional children and ensures that they receive appropriate educational services, is described. Parents' rights to participate in the evaluation process and in the planning of the child's Individualized Education Program are considered as well as related services and rights such as transportation, therapy and counseling, placement in the least restrictive environment, and due process. Appendices provide information on signs which alert parents that their child may need special services, a parent checklist for evaluating both the child and the services needed; and a list of parent and professional groups in Alaska.
