An Evaluation of Scarborough's Co-Operative Education Program: Addendum to Internal Evaluation Report No. 3.

As a follow-up to a 1981-82 formative evaluation of Scarborough's (Ontario) cooperative education program, an outcomes-oriented study of the program was conducted in 1983. The study, which involved surveys of cooperative education and control group students, employers, teachers, and parents, focused on program outcomes related to student attitudes toward school and attendance; student understanding of the world of work; and students', teachers', employers', and parents' perceptions of outcomes. Study findings included the following: (1) cooperative education students and control group students both had moderately positive attitudes toward school; (2) cooperative education students were absent from school more often than control group students; (3) there were no significant differences between the two groups with respect to students' understanding of employers' expectations in the world of work; (4) most students felt their program goals were being realized; (5) teachers perceived the program to have been very helpful for students; and (6) 97% of employers felt the program had helped students understand the world of work and 65% to 75% indicated that the program had helped their organization to become acquainted with a possible source of future employees.
