Personal File Management for the Health Sciences.
Apostle, Lynne
Written as an introduction to the concepts of creating a personal or reprint file, this workbook discusses both manual and computerized systems, with emphasis on the preliminary groundwork that needs to be done before starting any filing system. A file assessment worksheet is provided; considerations in developing a personal filing system are discussed; and the advantages and disadvantages of author arrangement, alphabetic subject arrangement, classified subject arrangement, and numerical arrangement are considered. Finally, single-access, multiple-access, and computer-assisted systems are described, and the process of choosing subject headings is discussed. Illustrations provide examples of each filing concept. A 30-item bibliography and 4 references are provided, and a listing of 11 subject heading lists for the health sciences is included. (KM)
