English as a Second Language 10C. An English Language and Literature Transition Course.
Alberta Dept. of Education, Edmonton. Language Services Branch.
The English language and literature transition course is intended for high school students at the intermediate or advanced proficiency level in English as a second language intending to pursue further English language arts and literature courses. It builds on the communication skills introduced earlier in the English-as-a-second-language course series. The curriculum guide for the course outlines the program and course philosophy, rationale, and target audience; states the program and course goals and objectives, including minumum expectations; describes the intended content; suggests teaching strategies and instructional planning and organization techniques; outlines purposes and strategies of student evaluation; gives recommendations for learning resources; and includes materials for teaching patterns of discourse organization and for planning thematic units.
