Language Development across the Curriculum is a high school course designed to prepare students at an intermediate level of English language proficiency for studies in the content areas. The course is designed to help students succeed in high school subjects such as social studies, science, and mathematics. The curriculum guide for the course outlines the program and course philosophy, rationale, and target audience; states the program and course goals and objectives, including minumum expectations; describes the intended content, including the major communications skills to be taught; suggests teaching strategies, instructional planning techniques, and activities for each of the communications skills areas; outlines purposes and methods of student evaluation; gives recommendations for learning resources; and includes additional materials for teaching a mythology unit, transitional words in discourse, essay writing, and research paper preparation; and for evaluating student writing.
