Basic English is a non-credit course designed to help non-English-speaking senior high school students in Alberta develop basic communication skills. The curriculum guide for the course outlines the program and course philosophy, rationale, and target audience; states the program and course goals and objectives, including minumum expectations; describes the intended content, including cultural topics and themes and suggested time allotments; suggests teaching strategies and instructional planning techniques; outlines purposes and strategies of student evaluation; gives recommendations for learning resources; and presents three complete sample units.
