This book provides practical ideas and information for volunteer tutors and teachers about teaching numeracy, as well as a reference section that concentrates on specific content areas. The first part of the book considers teaching techniques, the planning and presentation of numeracy material, evaluation of progress, reinforcement of newly learned concepts, working with students of a wide range of ability, working with students who also have literacy problems, and helping those who require an immediate solution to a specific problem. The second part is devoted to the concepts and skills students may need to solve problems in day-to-day living and to pass different types of tests. It should serve as a reference for the tutor.
